Winter Blues

The dinner plates are new. Asiatic Pheasant. The bread plates are vintage. Nippon Flying Turkey. They just look great together!
I've always loved blue and white. I started collecting blue willow when I was 10 or so. At one point I probably had around 500 pieces with several large serving pieces. I sold all my china (tons of jadeite too--I cringe) when I was 19 and used it as a down payment for a car. What can I say? I needed a car.
Anyway I'm back into blue and white in a big way. I love how it's found a place among even modern interiors. I also love how it all goes together so well.
Have you ever known another dog that can sit in a chair at a dining table the whole length of the meal? I suppose maybe not a lot of people would allow this. Haha.
Have a great weekend!

  1. Love blue and white tablescapes, especially in winter! I wish my dog would sit nicely at the table, too, I am jealous that Barbie is so calm and well-mannered. Must be the serene influence of the lovely plates and white tablecloth!

    1. Haha thanks! There is something so timeless and fresh about blue and white. As for your dog-I'm sure being that he is a JRT mix he is just too energetic and busy to sit still that long!

  2. Beautiful, Stephen. I had a huge collection of blue and white, too, and passed it along to my daughter. I kept just one small vintage set made in England. I should really feature it one day- Dinner looks wonderful! xo Diana

    1. Thank you so much! I'm actually a little mad at All-Clad right now! That pan buckled while I had it on very high heat. Never happened before! It's gorgeous when it's clean...but what a pain to get it there!

    2. Oh no! My hubs cooked eggs on our all cald once and we had to soak in water for a few days to get it all cleaned... they sure are pretty though

    3. Do you have Bar Keeper's Friend? That certainly does make the job a lot easier. Only thing is rinse rinse rinse after you use it! I had a pan that I used BKF on and put in the dishwasher. It was permanently dulled.

  5. Dog people totally understand that it is perfectly okay to have a dog at the table, as long as said dog has learned proper table manners, of course. Barbie obviously has perfect manners. At our place, any empty chair will most likely be occupied by a cat ... the dog will be on the floor close by, giving a human at the table 'the eye'.

  6. Yes SA, our Ruby sits in chairs and even naps for hours. We regularly find her sitting in the chair, tail dangling down, watching the outside world go by. :) She also sleeps in my Queen Anne chair in the upstairs bedroom when she wants quiet time by herself. We don't care, it's just furniture and our dogs are family. Where else should they sit?

  8. Blue never gets old. It's the perfect neutral, as far as I'm concerned. We must, however, work on getting you some nice antique linen napkins...

Barbie looks very chill, sitting in her dining chair. Growing up, we had a setter who used to sit on the sofa, very lady-like, crossing her back legs, and keeping only one front paw on the ground for stability. She'd drape the other front paw over the armrest. She was the size of a pony so it was quite the sight.

If people are horrified with cats on counter-tops or dogs who do the dreaded "dishwasher pre-wash", they probably won't be invited over to our house a second time. (They probably don't WANT to, either!)

    1. Haha! You are so right...my napkin selection is weak. Considering there aren't even any in this picture!

    1. Thank you! Yes I have been having all sorts of blogger issues. The carrots are a recipe I make ALL the time. It's a little bit of everything but highlights include vanilla, red pepper flake, thyme, and balsamic.
